A terrorist group stabbed Rashed Anwar, news editor of the daily Prothom Rajdhani, published in the southwestern district town Chuadanga. He was immediately admitted to a local hospital in critical condition. The incident happened yesterday (May 13, 2001) afternoon when Anwar was on his way to the office. The terrorist group attacked him near the Chowrasta area and stabbed him with a sharp knife. Anwar filed charges at the local police station, identifying seven attackers.
Prothom Rajdhani recently published several news items about an illegal vehicle toll collection and other terrorist activities. On 12 May this same terrorist group tried to collect illegal tolls from Jessore bound buses.When the bus drivers refused to pay they attacked them. The next day, Prothom Rajdhani published an article about the incident. On the morning of 13 May, an annoyed terrorist group rushed into the newspaper office and threatened all journalists. Finally they found Anwar on the street and attacked him. Anwar was able to recognise seven of the terrorists and lodged a complaint against them. No arrests have been made yet.
