(IPYS/IFEX) – According to IPYS, on 29 May 1998, the daily “La
Republica” published an article which claimed the newspaper had received
documents that prove that the Intelligence Service is linked to attacks
against
its journalists.
The newspaper has obtained a fax sent to the editorial staff at the
sensationalist daily “El Tio”, presumed to be in the handwriting of
Augusto Bresani — who works as an advisor to the Commander General of the
army,
General Nicolas Hermoza, and who claims to be a friend of Vladimiro
Montesinos
Torres, advisor to the National Intelligence Service — suggesting the
following
day’s headlines.
“La Republica” received another fax sent to “El Tio”,
which was later published verbatim on a full page in that newspaper. The
fax was
five pages long and sent by Bravo S.A. company, from the following fax
number:
444 5443, which belongs to Olga Bresani Echevarria. The true name of the
company
is Bresani and Associates.
“El Tio” has dedicated many pages in the past to attacks against
Edmundo Cruz, Angel Paez and Fernando Rospigliosi, all journalists with “La
Republica.” “La Republica” has promised to verify the
authenticity of all the documents it received.
