(RSF/IFEX) – According to information made available by RSF on 29 May 1998,
issue #23 of the Arab-language version of the weekly independent “La
Tribune” has been censored. Authorities have not provided any explanation
for this measure.
RSF notes that since the beginning of 1998, there have been six instances of
suspensions and seizures by authorities, in accordance with article 11 of
the the Press Law which allows the Minister of the Interior to arbitrarily
censor newspapers without explanation (for background see IFEX alerts of 4
May, 17 April and 14 January 1998).
Recommended Action
Send appeals to authorities:
affecting “La Tribune” is lifted and that article 11 of the Press Law is
repealed
