(RSF/IFEX) – According to RSF, on 1 September, Tale Hamid, the editor of the
independent newspaper “Mustagil” was beaten by four policemen near the
building of the State Committee, an hour and a half before the cortege of
President Heidar Haliyev was due to pass along this highway. The journalist
was driving along the highway when he was stopped by policemen who told him
that the road was closed. In response, Tale Hamid protested and showed his
press card. Ragim Khalilov, captain of the Police Department of the Khatai
region, slapped the journalist’s face. Three majors, Hadir Mamedov,
Sirajidulla Ragimov and Barat Samedov, joined him in beating the journalist.
The Prosecutor’s Office and Ministry of Internal Affairs were immediately
informed of this assault by Tale Hamid and the General Prosecutor sent an
investigator to the scene of the incident .
