(PPF/IFEX) – On 16 August 1998, twelve activists with the youth wing of the
ruling Pakistan Muslim League (PML) attacked the editor-in-chief of a local
weekly inside the Chakwal (city in Punjab province) Press Club for
publishing an alleged anti-PML story. Khawaja Danial Salim was saved by
other media workers present in the press club. On leaving the club, the
youths marched on city roads and burnt some copies of the weekly.
A report was lodged by Salim at the Chakwal police station against the PML
youths in which he accused them of attacking and threatening him of dire
consequences. Salim has also asked the administration to provide security
against the threats made to his life.
