(PINA/IFEX) – The publisher of Vanuatu’s “Daily Post” newspaper, Marc Neil-Jones, has been attacked in the capital of Port Vila.
Radio New Zealand International reported that Neil-Jones sustained a broken nose and a black eye.
Neil-Jones has filed an official complaint with the police and alleges that those involved are police officers who are employed at the Correctional Service Centre in Port Vila.
The publisher believes his assailants were officers working in the centre because they made reference to stories which appeared in the “Daily Post” about the burning down of the former French jail.
Neil-Jones said his attackers claimed the journalists who wrote the articles did not get their side of the story.
Commander and Superintendent John Taleo said police are investigating the incident, but Neil-Jones would need to help his men identify those involved in order to arrest them.
