(FNJ/IFEX) – Dhirendra Prasad Shah, publisher and editor of the Siraha-based “Shree Jan Aakrosh Daily” newspaper, was repeatedly threatened with death by Dharmendra Kumar Mandal, treasurer of the Kathoauna Bazzar Water Consumer and Cleaning Committee, on 2 and 3 November 2006 at Siraha, in eastern Nepal.
Shah was threatened regarding news published in the paper on 24 October. The article was entitled “Water pipes being used for sewage: committee silent”. Mandal expressed his anger over the phone about the article and threatened to kill Shah.
The FNJ has condemned the incident and demanded that the authorities take immediate action against Mandal.
