(RSF/IFEX) – According to information made available by RSF on 22 July 1998,
on 21 July, the daily “Alwan” was suspended for two days. The Sudanese
National Press and Publications Council said the daily had published a
“blasphemous” article and had broken the law. In its 21 July issue, “Alwan”
criticised the authorities who seized the wheat harvest from farmers in the
east of Sudan. They said they did it as a way of recovering debts.
