On the morning of 6 June 1995, Mamadou Dabo, a journalist with
the daily “Nouvel Horizon”, was arrested in Bamako, Mali. He was
arrested at 10:00 am by two agents of the Mali secret service who
took him away in a police car. He was interrogated for two hours
by the assistant director of State Security, which is directly
under the orders of the Presidency. He was questioned about an
article published the same day in “Nouvel Horizon” and reproached
for insulted the president. No charges were laid and there was no
indication that the arrest would lead to court as the judicial
power was not informed of the circumstances.
