(RSF/IFEX) – RSF has welcomed the sudden “discovery” of a missing file in the appeal by imprisoned newspaper editor Mohamed Benchicou against his two-year jail sentence. The file was supposedly lost more than three weeks ago by the Supreme Court.
The organisation expressed concern, however, about the legal irregularities and failings in the case. “The file certainly did not disappear by accident,” RSF said. “This episode has delayed the case and we still do not know which level of the court will deal with it.”
Benchicou’s lawyers announced on 25 July 2005 that the appeal case-file, submitted last 24 October, had been lost by the court.
