The website was hacked by the "Indian Cyber Army".
(PPF/IFEX) – The website of Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF) was hacked on 15 August 2010 by hackers calling themselves the “Indian Cyber Army”. They removed the contents of the website, replacing it with the flag of India and a statement that the site had been hacked by them. The hackers also wrote abusive language and warned of dire consequences.
The contents of the website servers and the site was restored in the morning of 16 August.
The PPF, a member of IFEX, is an independent media research and training organisation, which monitors violations of freedom of the press in Pakistan. The organisation also works to raise awareness on social, political and human rights issues.
Press reports quoting the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), which regulates the cyber and telecommunications activities in Pakistan, said some 150 Pakistani websites have been hacked recently in the days leading up to independence days of Pakistan and India on 14 and 15 August, respectively.
