On 23 June 1995, Abass Moumani, a photographer, was beaten up by
Israeli soldiers after he took photographs of a demonstration in
the Al-Jalazon refugee camp. The soldiers confiscated and
destroyed his films. The journalist had to be transferred to a
hospital in Ramallah to be treated.
On 24 June, another demonstration took place in front of the
“Maison de l’orient” in East Jerusalem. Three journalists, Khaled
Zighari, a photographer with Reuters press agency, Awad Awad, of
the photo agency Zoom 77, and Atta Aweissat, a journalist, were
beaten up by police during this incident.

violence is no longer used to prevent journalists from performing
