(NDIMA/IFEX) – On the night of 23 May 2001, photographer Chris Omolo, who works for Kenya’s leading English language daily “Daily Nation” was injured and his camera was damaged after he took photographs of police arresting revelers in a bar in Nairobi. Omolo was slapped and kicked by armed policemen who also beat “Daily Nation” driver George Munyoki.
Twenty policemen raided Nairobi West’s Enzogu bar and arrested all patrons and proprietor John Vitisia. Police in Nairobi have carried out several raids at recreation spots as the crime rate reaches alarming levels.
