(MISA/IFEX) – On 3 December 2008, journalists in Botswana petitioned the Botswana Football Association (BFA) over the reported assault of one of their colleagues, photojournalist Kebofhe Mathe, by the chairperson of Mochudi Centre Chiefs football club, Mr. Earnest Molome.
The petition, which is in the possession of MISA Botswana, was signed by a number of sport journalists, including newspaper editors. They threatened to boycott fixtures of Mochudi Centre Chiefs until the football body, through its premier league committee, reports back on the investigations after receiving a complaint from Mathe.
Attempts to reach the alleged victim hit a snag as he was reported to have travelled to Johannesburg to diagnose the damage made to his camera. However his assistant editor, Tshireletso Motlogelwa, confirmed the incident.
When contacted on 5 December, Botswana Football Association spokesperson Phakamile Kraai denied having received the petition.
