(WAJA/IFEX) – On Thursday 3 February 2000, after several hours of interrogation, the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police cautioned Kabral Blay-Amihere, editor of “The Independent”, that he was being investigated for sedition in connection with an item on the military in his paperâs edition of 11 January. Under Ghana’s Criminal Code of 1960, any person found guilty of sedition faces a minimum prison sentence of five years.
Kabral was released after the interrogation. He was also previously arrested and detained by military authorities on 13 January, and released the next day.
