(JED/IFEX) – On the morning of 1 June 2004, Alexis Ndjeko, a law student and host with the Lubumbashi-based university radio station Radio Phoenix Université (RPU), was released after spending two days in detention. Lubumbashi is the main city in Katanga province, southern Democratic Republic of Congo.
Contacted by JED, the radio station said Ndjeko and station director Félix Kabange have an appearance before the National Intelligence Agency’s (Agence nationale des renseignements, ANR) local office on 3 June.
On 30 May, RPU radio suspended its programming to protest Ndjeko’s arrest. Normal programming resumed on 1 June following his release.
