On the afternoon of 11 August 1996, Mohamed Kessab, a journalist
with Radio-Coran and contributor to Radio-Mitijida was
assassinated by an unidentified group of armed men. The
assassination took place on the road from the districts of Banem
to Bouzarahin, in the capital, Algiers.
Kessab was in the company of two of his brothers, one of whom was
also assassinated. The other was seriously injured. The brothers
were apparently travelling to their family home in the area of
Bouscoul, not far from where the assassination took place.
Mohamed Kessab was 34 years old, married and the father of three
children.
