(MFWA/IFEX) – On 27 August 2005, the religious television station TV Zion was allowed to resume its broadcasts after its suspension was lifted. The station had been suspended by Togo’s High Authority for Broadcasting and Communication (HAAC) for 15 days.
The HAAC’s decision to suspend TV Zion’s broadcasting licence followed the failure of Luc Kodjo Adjaho, the station’s director, to adhere to warnings he had received for alleged threats and curses against the managing editors of “Forum de la semaine” and “Tingo Tingo” newspapers.
Adjaho, a former court bailiff who is now a pastor, habitually curses and slanders journalists who criticise him. From 5 to 8 August, he allegedly issued slanderous statements discrediting the managing editors live on television.
