(MFWA/IFEX) – On 28 April 2005, Ahmed Sheriff, a correspondent for the independent daily “Salone Times”, was physically barred from the premises of the Criminal Investigation Department of the police station in Kenema, about 200 kilometres east of the capital, Freetown.
According to MFWA-Freetown sources, Assistant Superintendent of Police Gabriel Tommy and other police officers at the station manhandled and insulted the reporter, who had gone there to investigate a recent murder case.
Sheriff is also secretary of the Sierra Leone Reporters Union’s Easter Region Branch.
