(RSF/IFEX) – George Buhnici, of the privately-owned Romanian television station Pro TV, who was arrested by Bulgarian authorities on 16 November 2004 for using a concealed camera to film in a duty-free shop on the Romanian-Bulgarian border, was released on 2,500 euros (approx. US$3,250) bail on 19 November.

Buhnici must stay in Bulgaria until the prosecutor’s office decides if he is to be tried for using a concealed camera without permission, a charge which carries a penalty of up to three years’ imprisonment.

Angelov is currently in hospital recovering from stab wounds, a broken leg, and facial bruising. The Interior Ministry chief secretary has informed media that the assault was related to the journalist’s investigative work.
