Colonel Gibril Rajoub, chief of the Preventive Security Service
(PSS) in the West Bank, has declared that Bassem Eid, the
correspondent for Reporters sans frontieres (RSF) in Palestine
and a researcher for the human rights defense group B’Tselem, is
an “agent of the Israeli police whose goal is to attack the PSS.”
Bassem Eid is the co-author of a report issued by B’Tselem, which
appeared in August and was entitled “Neither Law Nor Justice”,
and detailed attacks on human rights committed by the PSS. RSF
believes that such baseless accusations are not only scandalous,
but also irresponsible, and that to accuse a Palestinian of being
an Israeli agent will get him treated as a “collaborator” and put
him in physical danger. Bassem Eid, by his work in the area, has
allowed RSF and B’Tselem to denounce illegal acts committed by
both the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) and Israeli forces.
