(MISA/IFEX) – On 7 November 2001, MISA’s Swaziland chapter (MISWA) reported that the Senate House in the Swazi Parliament endorsed recommendations to fine journalists up to
R10,000 (approx. US$1,048) if they write or misquote issues raised in Parliament.
According to MISWA, editor of the “Times of Swaziland” (Sunday edition) Vusi Ginindza has recently been fined E300 (R300, US$31).
MISWA stated that this Senate resolution will hinder press freedom as it criminalises free speech.
