(RSF/IFEX) – On 3 December 1997, Mossi Mwassi, radio
correspondent in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for the
Swahili-language service of the British Broadcasting Corporation
(BBC) and Deutchwelle, was arrested at his home by the Rapid
Intervention Police (PIR). No official explanation was given for
the arrest of Mwassi. He is being detained in a basement cell at
the National Information Agency.

Send appeals to authorities:
Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, Article 19 of which
guarantees the freedom to inform and to be informed
taken by Zaire (DRC) in the international community, and,
consequently, to make known the reasons for the arrest of Mossi
Mwassi and to do everything in their power to secure his release
