(WAN/IFEX) – In a 19 February 2002 letter to Moroccan Interior Minister Driss Jettou, WAN and the World Editors Forum expressed their outrage at the murder of Spanish journalist José Luis Percebal.
According to reports, Percebal, a long-time Morocco correspondent for the independent Spanish radio station Cadena Cope, was found dead in his home on 12 February in Rabat. Percebal had been stabbed in the back the previous day. There was no sign of forced entry at Percebal’s home, but his cell phone was missing. Officials have yet to establish a firm motive.
Recommended Action
Send appeals to the interior minister:
– urging him to ensure that a thorough investigation into Percebal’s murder is carried out and that those responsible are swiftly brought to justice
