According to latest statement, 97 people have lost their lives in the attack carried out by two suicide bombers at the Labor, Peace and Democracy rally that took place in Ankara on 10 October 2015.
We share the stories that we could find of those who were calling for peace in Ankara.
Abdülkadir Uyan
26-year-old Abdulkadir Uyan from Bingöl graduated from İstanbul University in electrical engineering, in 2013. He opened an engineering office with his brother in Bingöl. He applied for a post-graduate degree at İstanbul University in electrical engineering a day before the explosion. He will be buried in Mutluca Village, in the Solhan district.
Metin Kürklü
53-year-old Metin Kürklü was a retired worker and chair of the Labor Party (EMEP), in the Merzifon District. He had gone to Ankara with his friends to join the rally, which took place on his birthday. His body was buried in the Merzifon district of Amasya province on 11 October.
Gökhan Akman
21-year-old Gökhan Akman was a student at the Mechanical Engineering Department at Uşak University. He was also a member of the EMEP youth branch in Uşak. His body was buried in the Kızılyaka neighbourhood of the Çameli district in the Denizli province on 11 October.
Orhan Işıktaş
24-year-old Orhan Işıktaş was a student at the Logistics Department of Selçuk University. His body was buried in Zübeyir village of the Tarsus district in Mersin, on 11 October. Işıktaş’s mother, Müzeyyen Işıktaş, said at funeral “Orhan went to Ankara for peace. They killed the ones who went for peace. I am sorry for everyone’s loss, except for Erdoğan.”
Gülhan Karlı Elmascan / Yılmaz Elmascan
Teacher Gülhan Karlı Elmascan and her husband of one year, Yılmaz Elmascan (a member of the Combined Transportation Workers’ Union (BTS) a machinist for Turkish State Railways (TCDD)) had come to the rally from Adana.
Of those who had went to the rally from Adana, BTS members Bilgen Parlak, Hacı Kıvrak, Nevzat Sayan, Rıdvan Akgül, Fevzi Sert, EMEP members Dilan Sarıkaya and Gökhan Gökbörü, EMEP Provincial Board member Şebnem Yurtman and Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) member Hacı Mehmet Şah lost their lives along with them.
While Elmascan’s body will be buried in Suruç district of Urfa province, his wife Gülhan Karlı Elmascan will be buried in the Ereğli district of Konya province.
