In response to the Sudan Intelligence and Security Service’s arrest of of human rights lawyer Amin Mekki Medani, president of the Sudan Human Rights Monitor, Freedom House released the following statement:
“Freedom House condemns the arrest of Dr. Medani for his work protecting and promoting human rights in Sudan,” said Jenai Cox, program manager for Africa at Freedom House. “Sudanese authorities should release Dr. Medani without delay and end its harassment of human rights defenders.”
Sudan is rated Not Free in Freedom in the World 2014, Not Free in Freedom of the Press 2014, and Not Free in Freedom on the Net 2014.
