(RSF/IFEX) – RSF is expressing its concern about the bomb blast targetting
journalist Peter Karlsson, which occurred in Stockholm.
According to RSF’s information, on 28 June 1999, Karlsson, a freelance
journalist, was with his young son when he was injured by a car bomb outside
his home in Nacka, Stockholm. The bomb detonated when they got into the car.
His wife was a few meters behind. The journalist and his son were thrown
from the car. They are injured and have been taken to hospital. Their lives
are not in danger.
Karlsson and his companion, Katarina Larsson, also a freelance journalist,
specialise in covering extreme right wing movements. In 1996, the couple
worked for the magazine “Expo”, a publication reporting exclusively on right
wing extremism. They also worked on a freelance basis for national
newspapers in Sweden, including “Aftonbladet”, “Dagens Nyheter” and
“Expressen”. They have been threatened by extreme right supporters and
received police protection.
RSF has asked to be kept informed on developments in the investigation.
