(NUSOJ/IFEX) – NUSOJ is outraged by the vicious attack by unidentified gunmen against female television journalist Bisharo Mohammed Waeys, which took place in Bossasso, Bari region, on 4 May 2008.
Armed men opened fire on her vehicle, but Waeys, who works for Eastern Television Network (ETN), escaped uninjured from the attack as she speedily drove towards her home. On 5 May, she was sent two threatening messages which said she would be killed if she did not stop the talk shows that she hosts.
“We strongly denounce this atrocious attack against Waeys as a clear attempt to victimize her because of her journalistic profession” said Omar Faruk Osman, NUSOJ Secretary General. “We urge the Puntland authorities to ensure her safety, investigate this attack, apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice”.
