(RSF/IFEX) – RSF is concerned by the cancellation of programming of the
television station TV 11 in Dnepropetrovsk (in Ukraine’s east).
According to
RSF’s information, on 17 March 1999, the Dnepropetrovsk authorities took
down and seized the television station’s transmitters. The journalists
were
ordered to leave the station’s offices. TV 11 has not broadcast since 9
March, officially for “technical reasons.” One of the station managers,
Vladimir Efremov, feels this explanation is being used as a pretext to
silence the broadcaster, which has been critical of the current
government.
The station’s broadcasting licence is valid until the year 2001.
