(CPJ/IFEX) – The following is the 23 October 1998 Liberian government press
release announcing the withdrawal of Star Radio short-wave frequencies:
**Further to IFEX alert of 27 October**
Republic of Liberia
Ministry of Posts & Telecommunications
Monrovia, Liberia
PRESS RELEASE
MONROVIA, OCTOBER 23, 1998: The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications
says it has withdrawn with immediate effect the short-wave frequencies
3.400MHZ and 5.888MHZ assigned to Star Radio.
A Posts and Telecommunications release said its decision to withdraw the
short-wave broadcasting frequencies is based upon the objective and
ownership of the establishment couple with government’s recent decision to
review all short-wave broadcasting stations presently operating in the
country. However, the Ministry said its authorization for Star Radio to
operate its existing FM 104MHZ station remains.
Meanwhile, the Ministry is inviting the management of Star Radio to a
conference on Monday, October 26, 1998 at 10:30 A.M. in the office of the
Minister for detail discussion, the release concluded.
