(CPJ/IFEX) – The three journalists of “The Independent” newspaper in Banul –
Baba Galleh Jallow, Yorro Jallow and Lamin Daffeh – were released from
detention at the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) headquarters on 2 August
1999 in the afternoon. They were told to report at NIA headquarters again on
3 August with all the necessary documents pertaining to the registration of
the newspaper. The journalists maintain they have already fulfilled all the
legal requirements for registration.
