"Frontpage Africa", "Daily Graphics" and "The News" have been ordered to court to explain why they should not be held in contempt in connection with a malpractice story.
(CEMESP/IFEX) – February 27th, 2012 – Three newspapers – Frontpage Africa, Daily Graphics and The News – are, by a writ of summons issued by the Supreme Court, ordered to appear in court on Wednesday February 29th with explanations as to why they should not be held in contempt.
According to the writ, a copy of which is in the possession of the Center for Media Studies and Peace Building (CEMESP), the three newspapers are said to have published a story about the Temple of Justice in connection with US$1.2 million malpractice.
The said writ of summons, signed by the Clerk of the Honorable Supreme Court Amos Dickson Marshall, ordered the publishers of the newspapers to contact their lawyers to file appropriate Returns on or before Monday February 27th.
The Executive Director of CEMESP, Malcolm Joseph, was quoted as saying that his organization has initiated discussions with its lawyers to provide legal representation for the newspapers.
CEMESP runs a media legal defence program with support from the UK-based Media Legal Defence Initiative.
