Mark Minin, the director of a local television company, was shot at with rubber bullets while leaving his apartment.
(CJES/IFEX) – Mark Minin, director of the local television company Vosmoi Den, survived an assassination attempt in Tomsk on May 18, 2010. The journalist was shot at with a “traumatic pistol” (a weapon that fires rubber bullets) while leaving his apartment building. Three of the four shots fired at the journalist hit him and he was wounded in the chest, hand and hip. As of May 28, the journalist was in hospital in stable condition.
The Tomsk region governor, Viktor Kress, has taken personal control of the investigation into the incident.
Olga Ignatova, acting aide to the head of the Investigations Department of the Investigations Committee of the Russian Prosecutor’s Office for the Tomsk region, said she believes the attack is connected to the journalist’s criticism of some regional politicians.
