(WAN/IFEX) – In a 9 August 2000 letter to Israeli Minister of Public Security Shlomo Ben Ami, WAN and the World Editors Forum expressed their serious concern at the wounding of two journalists during shooting by Israeli soldiers.
According to reports, Katya Jarjoura, a freelance journalist working for Radio Canada, and Ali Dia, a Lebanese journalist working for the news agency Agence France-Presse, were injured when Israeli soldiers fired “warning shots” at youths throwing stones near a border fence in southern Lebanon.
Jarjoura was hit in the abdomen by shrapnel, while Dia was injured in both legs, also by shrapnel.
