(NDIMA/IFEX) – Two Kenya Television Network (KTN) editors
suspended in July 1996 have been reinstated. Vitalis Musebe, the
head of news at KTN, and his deputy, Isaiya Kabira, officially
resumed work on the morning of 1 October 1997 after an absence of
nearly three months. Musebe said they had been reinstated
unconditionally.
**Updates IFEX alert dated 23 and 11 July 1997**
Background Information
The two were suspended indefinitely on 9 July, after KTN screened
footage of police storming and attacking people at the All Saints
Cathedral in Nairobi, and breaking into houses in a bid to stop a
pro-reform rally held on 7 July. Musebe, who was reportedly off
duty, and Kabira were accused of focusing attention on police
brutality (see IFEX alerts).
