(PPF/IFEX) – Supporters of a slain religious leader sprayed bullets on the van of a local television channel on 15 July 2006, in Karachi, the largest city in Pakistan. On 14 July, two cameramen from another television channel were beaten.
Masked armed activists at the funeral procession for religious leader Allama Hasssan Turabi were firing in the air and four bullets hit the van of GEO television channel. Many other journalists covering the procession also had to flee the area because of the shots.
On 14 July, the day Turabi was killed by a suicide bomber, Adeel Khan and Qasim Khan, cameramen for ARY ONE television network, were attacked by outraged mourners, who also tried to burn the pair’s motorcycles.
