Unknown person(s) broke into the office of the national coordinator of Human Rights Network for Journalists-Uganda (HRNJ-Uganda) on 22 April 2013, and stole organization properties. They stole a computer and photo camera.
The motive of the robbery is not yet established as they left behind other valuable commodities in the same office. Prior to this incident, there have been three unsuccessful attempts on the organisation’s office this year and several other attempts in the past three years. The office is located along Kivebulaya road in Mengo, the Rubaga division, in Uganda’s capital, Kampala. It is watched over by armed guard at night. The police are investigating the matter.
“This break-in possesses a very big threat to the organization and its staff. The motive could have been accessing confidential information of the organization. We implore the police to investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to book,” said HRNJ-Uganda’s national coordinator, Wokulira Ssebaggala.
