(WAN/IFEX) – On 25 February 1998, representatives of the World Association
of Newspapers (WAN) met with Algerian Foreign Minister, Ahmed Attaf, in
Madrid to discuss a WAN visit to Algiers. The Algerian Government has given
the go-ahead for the visit, which should take place from 15 to 18 March
1998.
During their stay in the Algerian capital, WAN members will meet with both
officials and political leaders to discuss the working conditions of
journalists and their access to news sites. They will also discuss the
current reform of the Information Code. The visit will include extensive
meetings with Algerian publishers and editors.
