(RSF/IFEX) – RSF is protesting the latest banning order against the
independent weekly “Le Calame”.
According to RSF’s information, the French and Arab language editions
of “Le
Calame” were banned for three months by order of the Ministry of the
Interior. The newspaper had been suspended on three separate occasions
in
1998 (see IFEX alerts of 4 May and 14 January 1998).
Recommended Action
Send appeals to the President:
against
the newspaper is lifted and that Article 11 of the press law, which
allows
the Ministry of the Interior to arbitrarily ban newspapers, is revoked
