IFEX and other signatories urge the Turkish authorities to uphold the principles of justice, release the journalists subjected to arbitrary arrests and detentions, and safeguard the vital role of journalism in fostering debate on matters of public interest and democracy.

Bianet’s review of 2024 reveals that 25 journalists and press outlets were attacked last year, 82 media workers were threatened, 57 journalists were detained and 36 were convicted.
