L’Institut des médias d’Afrique australe (Media Institute of Southern Africa, MISA) vient d’annoncer les lauréats des prix John Manyarara du journalisme d’enquête : un reportage sur la facilité avec laquelle il est possible d’acheter des armes illégales en Afrique du Sud, et un document dévoilant la vente d’aliments à des prisonniers au Malawi.
Jessica Pitchford, de l’équipe des missions spéciales de la South African Broadcasting Corporation a remporté le prix John Manyarara du journalisme d’enquête de l’année pour « Guns for Sale » (armes à vendre), qui documente la simplicité de la démarche à faire pour acheter des armes à feu illégales en Afrique du Sud.
Pilirani Phiri, de « Zodiak Radio », au Malawi, s’est vu décerner le prix du Journaliste d’enquête prometteur de l’année pour son reportage « Food for Sale in Prisons » (Nourriture à vendre en prison). Le reportage a mis au jour la question de l’étendue de la corruption dans un établissement d’État : les prisonniers à qui on vend de la nourriture dans les prisons Maula du Malawi.
Les prix John-Manyarara honorent l’excellence en matière de journalisme d’enquête dans les pays de la Communauté pour le développement de l’Afrique australe (Southern African Development Community, SADC). La récompense porte le nom du juge et président fondateur du Conseil d’administration du Fonds de fiducie du MISA.
