(PFC/IFEX) – The following is a 2 May 2003 PFC press release:
REPORTS ON VIOLATIONS OF FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION IN LATIN AMERICA AVAILABLE ONLINE
On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, which will be celebrated on Saturday 3 May, Journalists Against Corruption (Periodistas Frente a la Corrupción, PFC) acknowledges those Latin American journalists and media outlets that have carried out their profession with integrity and courage during the past year.
PFC is making available online five reports on violations of freedom of expression, so that citizens in the region can strengthen their support for the press and demand that governments diligently investigate attacks on journalists and media outlets, and identify, try and punish those responsible. The organisation urges politicians and government authorities to stop committing attacks against freedom of expression and taking part in efforts to silence the independent press.
