La Fundación Irmgard Coninx, con sede en Berlín, invita a jóvenes académicos y activistas de derechos humanos a participar en una competencia internacional de redacción de ensayo cuyo tema es la universalidad de los derechos humanos.
Los ensayos deberán explorar la pregunta de si los derechos humanos son universales e incluir cuestiones como las necesidades de libre comercio y comunicación, sociedades democráticas modernas y la idea de una herencia común compartida entre culturas.
El concurso es parte de un nuevo programa de la fundación que busca enfocar los tema sociales, teóricos y pragmáticos que enfrentan los derechos humanos en la actualidad. Se invitará a los autores de los 20 ensayos más importantes a una conferencia internacional (las Mesas redondas de Berlín sobre la transnacionalidad) que se celebrará en Berlín del 4 al 6 de octubre de 2005. La fundación cubrirá los costos de alojamiento y viaje a Berlín.
El ganador del mejor ensayo recibirá una subvención de investigación de tres meses para estudiar en el Centro de Investigación en Ciencias Sociales y en la Universidad Humboldt en Berlín en 2006.
